Reflections on Sacred Teachings II Madhurya Kadambini 217 Pages ISBN: 1-885414-14-5 |
People today are profoundly skeptical about spiritual knowledge and spiritual life, and their skepticism often becomes greatly reinforced by their own record of baffled and thwarted attempts, often undertaken under the misdirection of inexperienced, clueless or dishonest "guides." Madhurya-Kadambini is an antidote to such skepticism. Furthermore, Bhakti-tirtha Swami, as a contemporary spiritual guide who follows the path of Visvanatha Cakravarti, shows how the process he describes is being conducted today.

"The sweet, far-reaching fragrance of the blossoms of bhava sends enchanting invitations to the Supreme Lord, gently inducing Him to appear in person before His devotee. Furthermore, when the soul's natural sentiments are even faintly scented by bhava, they melt and flow unrestrained toward the Supreme Lord, bathing His divine form with love…Bhava is self-willed and moves on its own volition." | Srila Prabhupada explains that the commentaries of Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti would inspire him during great junctions or crises in his life. Srila Visvanatha Cakravarti explains that one must accept the order of the spiritual master as one's life and soul. After reflecting on this statement, Prabhupada said that he gave up all other considerations and focused on the words of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta in regards to preaching in the West and taking sannyasa. These personalities form an integral part of our meditation, history and existence, and our connection with such a great heritage is wonderful. |
| Those of us who follow that spirit of Prabhupada understand that we are to die on the battlefield. Each individual must choose their own battlefield, but we must leave our bodies in battle. So we find ways to continually engage our bodies and minds in devotional service. When Prabhupada's body could no longer remain active, he still continued to use his mind in service. This is the umbrella that we are all under. Our founder-acarya showed us by his own example how to glorify the Lord despite the external circumstances. Despite the challenges within the environment or within ourselves, we can always find some way to use any energy or facility to create an offering for guru and Krsna. Srila Prabhupada had stopped eating, sleeping and had certainly stopped mating and defending. He did not even have the physical strength to hold the microphone, but with his little breath, he continued to speak and give. His voice was barely audible but he continued to speak into the microphone. This is definitely a sign to all of us for generations to come. There is never a time or a situation in which we cannot somehow glorify Krsna. As long as we have some breath or mental reflection, we can always find a way to offer it back. Whatever we may have, we find some way to give it to guru and Krsna. As we honor Srila Prabhupada's disappearance around the world, hopefully we have reflected more deeply on how Srila Prabhupada gave so extensively and how we also want to give in such ways. |
